Climate change and urban life

Urban Life

“The most severe impacts of flooding and threats to public health from global climate change will be felt in our cities. Most dramatically of all, cities like New Orleans and Miami, or even parts of New York and Los Angeles, could end up routinely flooded. However, there are signs of hope, and cities are leading the way – Berlin, Los Angeles, Mexico City, London, Toronto, Melbourne, Portland and many others are instituting action plans to reduce their CO2 emissions. While our federal government fails to act in the United States, I urge individuals to ask their local leaders to purchase clean cars, build green facilities, and buy green power. Our actions may determine if we win or lose the war for a habitable planet.”

  1. Emily Kurz Says:

I think Leonardo DiCaprio is an extremly talented actor. Also he seems like a wonderful person, doing all of this stuff for the enviroment and such. He is my role model!
(P.S. - The Aviator should have won best picture and Leo should have won Best Actor at the Oscars!)

  2. Margot Paterson Says:

I started off as a fan of young actor and now I read his website almost daily to keep up with the environmental pages.
Whether he opens his mouth (or writes about) researching his roles or climate change, he impresses. He does his homework.
I think it’s important that anyone with a large and varied audience use their position in society to inform. It’s nice to see the guy who once advertised Wagon R promoting hybrid vehicles these days.

  3. Alexia Says:

Thank you very much Leonardo for teach us about the important of takeing care about aour planet! We can’t still waiting!! . I know that is so difficult leaveing and changing our life habbits. But we must to do… It’s the time. W have to do!

  4. Andrea Stewart Says:

It is so wonderful to see a celebrity use their fame for such a good cause. Leo is a wonderful inspiration to the world.

  5. Susan Says:

Leo is right on the target about global warming causing flooding in the cities. Business attempting to make money by ignoring CO2 emmisions should look at the billions of $$ lost by Chicago when the LOOP was flooded in 1992. I have used Leo’s “Global Warming” video to explain the subject to my children. I hope to see him produce more videos of this nature and use his enviromental website to keep track of enviromental legislation.

  6. Nicolas Barbier Says:

    Hello everybody,

I strongly support Northsoutheastwest program and Leo’s activism. I think that all of us can do something every day that help keep our little planet in good health. For example, don’t let the water run when you brush your teeth ; print a document only if you absolutely need it on paper ; no need to let your TV turned on if noone watch it !
And Leo, a message for you : try to convince your actor, actress and director colleagues to commit themselves to participating in your plan. The only way to save our little planet is to act together. An individual work is good but can’t have a real positive effect.
    Best,
    Nicolas

  8. javier Says:

I woudl like to see some people from the goverment do something about our air pollution..If they don’t do nothing we will see more horrible things every hurricane season..Hope one of the hurricane do big damage in the Bush oil’s company..

  9. Vera Says:

I have a newly found respect for Leonardo diCaprio. His work in Blood Diamond is helping to push the violation of human rights (particularly children) to the top of political agendas worldwide. Hollywood has found its soul. Keep up the good work!
