RESEARCHERS AT THE INSTITUTE OF OCEAN ENERGY AT SAGA UNIVERSITY ARE DEVELOPING A TECHNOLOGY TO HARNESS SOLAR POWER FROM THE WARMTH STORED IN THE SEA. PUMPING COOL WATER FROM THE OCEAN DEPTHS TURNS AMMONIA VAPOUR INTO LIQUID AND WARM WATER FROM THE SURFACE TURNS IT BACK INTO VAPOUR, PROVIDING THE ENERGY TO TURN ELECTRICITY-PRODUCING TURBINES. GETTING THE FLOW RATES OF WATER AND AMMONIA RIGHT IS VITAL TO THE EFFICIENCY OF THE SYSTEM.
